What We Commit To

At Providence Church, these core commitments characterize who we are, what we are about, and how we will live gospel life together.

Defending Historic Biblical Christianity

Defending Historic Biblical Christianity

We seek to defend what is true, good, and beautiful, as believed and passed down throughout church history. We hold to the historic orthodox and Protestant understandings of Scripture and the moral application of the truth it contains. God made everything. We are sinners. We deserve God’s wrath. Christ was crucified. We must repent. Christ is our only hope. Knowing God through Christ by the Spirit is the sweetest treasure on earth.

Speaking the Truth

Speaking the Truth

We are committed to preaching the Word of God for the encouragement, correction, and nourishment of the body of Christ. We will seek to proclaim the whole counsel of God through expository preaching of the books of the Bible. We also aim to use the Word of God in Biblical Counseling to comfort, sharpen, and exhort one another as we speak the truth in love.

Worshipping God Robustly

Worshipping God Robustly

We are committed to gathering every Lord’s Day to worship what we know, Christ and Him crucified. In a world that is at war with God through sin, we know that our weapons are not of this world, but are of the Spirit. We worship in Spirit and truth through the preached Word, robust singing, and the right administration of the sacraments. We sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs that are Biblically rich, easy to sing, and Christ-exalting.

Cultivating Thick Discipleship

Cultivating Thick Discipleship

We are committed to following Christ’s command to disciple the nations. This global work starts at home. We seek to support the Christian family, encouraging strong, godly fathers, gracious, feminine mothers, and joyful, God-fearing children. We will cultivate a culture of discipleship that regularly and consistently “rubs shoulders” with one another so that we all might be further conformed into the image of Christ.

Practicing Hospitality

Practicing Hospitality

We are committed to promoting and practicing hospitality, which is central to Christian witness. We seek to build relationships with others, share meals, and love one another in seasons of weeping and rejoicing. Members are encouraged to open up their homes to share life together regularly and consistently. Hospitality isn’t an event — it’s the natural overflow of Christian community. It’s how the body of Christ knits together. In showing hospitality to others, we can welcome them into the joy that we have in Christ, one meal at a time.

Maintaining a Streamlined Ministry

Maintaining a Streamlined Ministry

We are committed to keeping the ministry at Providence Church streamlined. We realize that a cluttered church calendar can crowd out real life. Oftentimes, a busy church calendar prevents us from obeying the command to show hospitality to one another. We aim to focus on what truly strengthens discipleship and community, avoiding unnecessary busyness so that real relationships and growth can flourish. We want to develop strong households at Providence Church, not exhausted ones.

Committing to Meaningful Church Membership

Committing to Meaningful Church Membership

We are committed to Providence Church and express that commitment through meaningful church membership. We value church membership because God does. Members have confidence knowing that their pastors are keeping watch over their souls as those who will have to give an account to God on the last day. Elders have clarity about what sheep they are responsible for caring for before God the Father. We commit to one another to encourage, care for, and exhort one another to run the race of faith well, fixing our eyes on Jesus Christ.
